The tiny town of Clarksville in northeast Texas was host to jockeys and horses during the early 1900's. The track was located on the Red River County Fairgrounds; the small grandstand seated 1200. The races were held in conjunction with the annual county fair, with fireworks in the evenings. This painting was made from an old black and white photo of the track and grandstand; the horses were modeled after drawings made by the French pastelist, Edgar Degas.
